General Information

The organization :

Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and nonreligious

international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilian victims of

marginalization and exclusion, natural disasters, wars, and economic collapses, by answering

their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to

help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency. The association leads an average of

190 projects per year in the following sectors of intervention: food security, health, nutrition,

infrastructure, WASH, and economic recovery. PUI is providing assistance to 5 million people in

21 countries – in Africa, Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe and France in 2017.

PUI is starting operations in Libya with a health intervention in Benghazi to improve access to

quality healthcare for individuals affected by the ongoing conflict in Benghazi and its

surroundings. The Mission is currently organised with a Coordination Office in Tunis with overall

authority for the mission under the Head of Mission. The Operations Office in Benghazi is

overseen by a Deputy Head of Mission. Regular monitoring visits by the Coordination Office to the

field office(s) in Libya will take place until Coordination can be based in Libya.

Job Description

Overall purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, the Health and Hygiene Promoter teaches,

communicates and promotes health and hygiene related topics to patients, family and community

members, and ensuring social, ecological and environmental determinants are considered.

Responsibilities and scope of duties



Specific Responsibilities:

1. FULFILL EXPECTED HHP DUTIES THROUGH THE PLANNING AND CONDUCTING OF

INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION SESSIONS FOR TARGETED PERSONS

• Conducting individual and group health education and sensitization sessions, ensure follow up

of these sessions, their quality and efficiency. This can be done in either the clinic or in the

community;

• Plan information, education and communication sessions for targeted persons in accordance

with local, national and international IEC materials;

• Accept referrals from MHT staff for patients requiring further health education and promotion

support, such as pregnant and lactating women and persons with chronic diseases;

• Raise awareness of PUI health services among community members;

• Facilitate PUI participation in public health events (World Diabetes Day, for example) in and

around Benghazi;

• Improve PUI health services by working closely with clinic staff to create a broader

understanding of the health situation of the community;

• Actively partake in relevant data collection related to health and hygiene promotion.

2. OTHER DUTIES

• Reports concerns or requests from patients or their families about PUI services to the MHC

Team Leader;

• Follows safty and security rules on-base

In General, the Incumbent has to remain flexible and to perform any other duties as required for

the good care of patients
