Who are we?



Danish refugee council has been operating in Libya and Tunisia since 2011 focusing on protection of the displaced and conflict affected population. These include refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants in Tripoli area and in the south west of the country, the population in and around Sirte affected by unexploded ordnance (UXOs) and to an increasing extent on the legal and illegal migrants and stateless populations in Libya. DRC/DDG has its head office in Tripoli and a field office in Sabha. Sabha is located 800 km south of Tripoli and is a central transit point for migrants and is home to large numbers of minority groups and stateless populations.



About the job

DDG aims to recruit a highly qualified professional, within organization operating in Libya, with very good knowledge of humanitarian mine action processes. The purpose of this role is to conduct coordination of humanitarian mine action field activities and the national operation teams assigned to conduct duties in accordance with International & National Mine Action Standards and DDG Standard Operation Procedures.

DDG is the mine action unit under DRC operation in a context where security and funding conditions may be unstable. The employee is informed of and accepts that the contract may be terminated by the organization in the event of force majeure and/or in the event of insufficient funding. However, any termination of contract will always be in accordance with the periods of notice stated in the DRC terms of employment for performing national tasks.

The role of Medic is responsible to provide immediate first aid and medical support to all operational staff during the course of the normal working day, as well as providing first line medical support in remote accommodation sites.



Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Responsibilities:

Provide a basic stand-by capacity for rendering immediate appropriate medical treatment to any staff injured during DDG clearance operations
Understand all relevant DDG Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS)
Maintain all equipment in the Trauma Care Bag and in the respective First Aid Kits
Ensure that all painkilling drugs and fluids are replaced before they are out of date
Being aware of local medical facilities on deployment
Maintain accurate records of all treatments administered to staff
Provide medical advice to the Team Leader and / or Site Supervisor on the treatment of staff that are unwell, or injured at any time.
Conduct regular casualty evacuation drills in close support of the team leader
Complete casualty report sheet as per SOPS when any casualty evacuations are conducted.
Provide advice to all staff on hygiene and disease prevention
When necessary administer First aid and medical treatment to civilian casualties of mines and UXO
Carrying out any other operational/administrative duties as directed to meet operational requirements.


Communication and reporting:

Ensure that the OC and OM is fully briefed in all medical issues and any operational difficulties arising.
Assist the TLs and field operational staff in providing relevant and useful medical assistance


About you

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

Prior knowledge of Humanitarian Mine Action
Experience in working as medic
Sound knowledge of providing first aid and trauma emergency
Driving license
Open to new ideas, open to cooperation and liaison with other staff in order to maximize synergy-effects
National staff member
Well organized, proactive, flexible and trustworthy.
Physically fit
Required

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

Medic qualification valid for a medic in Libya
Higher education certificate is advantage
Languages: (indicate fluency level)

Fluency in speaking, reading and writing of English language is desirable.
