Intern for the Special Envoy’s Office for the Central Mediterranean - UNHCR Libya




Duties and Responsibilities:
–Provide research, policy and administrative support to the Special Envoy’s Office for the Central
Mediterranean on issues relating to current trends with population movements, refugee protection and mixed migration in the countries covered by the Special Envoy’s Office. In particular:
–keep abreast of legal, policy and other developments on mixed migration at cross- regional and individual country level (East and Horn of Africa (Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea) , West (Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso) and North Africa (Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria) and Europe), including policy, research and other initiatives by UN agencies (e.g. UNODC, IOM), other international organizations and civil society
–Conduct research on different aspects of mixed migratory movements through the Central Mediterranean Route, and prepare various materials for internal and external use;
–Undertake the compilation of internal briefing updates and other information material on mixed migration and other legal and protection issues covered by the Special Envoy’s Office
–Assist and provide administrative and other support to specific projects as relevant;
–Perform other related duties as required.
Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
–University degree – preferably advanced – in International Law, Political Science, International Relations, Communications or a related field. Knowledge of refugee law, international protection and human rights are desirable.
–Fluency in English (written and spoken) essential
–Fluency in French and Arabic (reading and understanding) important
–Excellent communication and drafting skills
–Computer skills, particularly good command of Excel and PowerPoint
–Previous experience in an international environment is an advantage
–Positive inter-personal skills, ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-functional team and environment
–Commitment to the mandate of UNHCR
